RISO printers: Cold-jet technology meets energy efficiency

Since its founding in 1946, Japanese printer manufacturer RISO has maintained a strong commitment to sustainability, standing out with its unique inkjet printing process. Discover RISO’s unique printing technology, which combines energy efficiency and performance. Thanks to the cold process, RISO eco-friendly printers reduce electricity consumption by 91% while increasing your productivity.

How can RISO reduce your electricity bill by 91%?

Unlike aqueous toner or inkjet printers, RISO’s FORCEJET TM technology is a unique cold technology. Laser machines that use toner need to be preheated and heated to fix the powder to the substrate to be printed on. On the other hand, water-based inkjet solutions use a thermal inkjet process. A thermal system is used to dry and fix the ink on the paper.

The FORCEJET TM technology developed by Japanese brand engineers completely eliminates this need for heat. After cold jetting, the oil-based ink penetrates the paper fibers and dries immediately, eliminating the need for energy-consuming ovens or drying modules.

Thanks to this 100% cold process, RISO’s ComColor and Valezus ranges consume less power than conventional copiers and printers during operation and standby. Energy savings of 91% have been achieved. When printing, ComColor printers consume 50Wh of power, while laser copiers consume 288Wh. In standby mode, the RISO solution consumes almost zero power.

To demonstrate this extremely low power consumption, the RISO FRANCE team developed and installed an energy measurement application during the C!Print exhibition in February 2024 in Lyon. Connected to the printers on display, it displays in real time the number of kilowatts saved per day thanks to RISO’s inkjet technology.

No harmful emissions when using RISO printers

In addition, according to tests conducted by Keypoint Intelligence, unlike laser systems, RISO printers do not emit ozone, an atmospheric pollutant that irritates the respiratory tract, mucous membranes and eyes, thanks to FORCEJET TM technology. Emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which have both direct and indirect impacts on the environment, are also reduced.
